What does this privacy policy mean for you?
This privacy policy explains how Trendlogik Media Ltd., the company behind Trendlogik.de, collects, uses and protects your personal data when you visit our site or interact with us. It covers your rights under UK GDPR and helps you make informed choices. We encourage you to read it together with our cookie policy for a complete picture of how we handle data.
We are committed to being transparent about our data practises. This page describes what information we gather, why we need it, how long we keep it, and who we share it with. If you have any questions, our Data Protection Officer can be reached via the contact details at the end of this page.
What information do we collect about you?
We collect only the personal data that you voluntarily provide or that is necessary for the functioning of our website and newsletter. This typically includes your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, contact us using the contact form, or send a tip via our Tip Us page. We also collect technical data such as IP address, browser type and page interactions through cookies and similar technologies.
When you comment on articles or engage with our social media channels, we may receive the information you choose to share publicly. We do not collect sensitive categories of data (such as health or political opinions) unless you explicitly disclose them in correspondence. Our aim is to process the minimum data needed to deliver a trustworthy news service.
Why do we process your personal data and on what legal basis?
We process your personal data for legitimate purposes: to send you our newsletter with your consent, to respond to your enquiries, to improve our journalism, and to comply with legal obligations. Under UK GDPR, our lawful bases are consent, contractual necessity (for newsletter fulfilment), legitimate interests (for analytics and security), and legal compliance where required.
For newsletter subscriptions, we rely on your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time via the unsubscribe link in every email or by contacting us. For technical cookies that are strictly necessary, we rely on our legitimate interest in operating the site. For non-essential cookies (analytics, advertising), we obtain your consent through our cookie banner. We never sell your personal data to third parties.
How this works in practice
Take the example of signing up for our free weekly newsletter. You enter your name and email address on the Newsletter page. We store that data securely on our email platform (Mailchimp, which is Privacy Shield certified for UK transfers). Every email we send includes a clear unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, your data is deleted from our active list within 30 days, but a record of the subscription request may be retained for audit purposes for up to one year. You can request full deletion at any time by emailing privacy@trendlogik.de.
Another example: if you send a news tip or correction via our site, we store your contact details only for as long as necessary to verify the information and respond to you. Once the exchange is concluded, we delete your data within 90 days unless it becomes part of an investigative story – in which case we will inform you and explain the retention period.
Who do we share your data with?
We share your personal data only with trusted service providers who help us run our website and communications. These include our hosting provider (Amazon Web Services based in Ireland), our email marketing platform (Mailchimp, with Standard Contractual Clauses for UK transfers), and analytics providers (Matomo, configured to anonymise IPs). We have Data Processing Agreements in place with each provider to ensure they comply with UK GDPR.
We do not share data with advertisers, political parties, or any third parties for their own marketing purposes. Where required by law, we may disclose information to law enforcement or regulators – but we will always notify you unless prohibited. Our sponsors and commercial partners never receive your personal data through our site.
How long do we keep your data?
We retain your personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes we collected it. For newsletter subscribers, we keep your data until you unsubscribe or for 12 months of inactivity, whichever comes first. For contact enquiries, we delete records after 90 days. For analytics data, we retain aggregated, anonymised datasets indefinitely, but individual IP-level data is purged after 14 months.
When determining retention periods, we consider the volume, nature and sensitivity of the data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorised use, and any legal or regulatory requirements (such as tax record-keeping for commercial contracts). We regularly review our data inventory to ensure we are not holding data longer than needed.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data at any time. You also have the right to data portability and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. To exercise these rights, contact our Data Protection Officer at privacy@trendlogik.de or write to the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK. We take your privacy seriously and will always try to resolve any concerns internally first. You can also request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
How we use cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies to ensure our site functions correctly, to analyse visitor behaviour anonymously, and to improve your reading experience. You can control your cookie preferences through our cookie banner, which appears on your first visit and can be reopened at any time via the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer. Full details are in our cookie policy.
We use only first-party analytics cookies (Matomo) that are privacy-friendly – they anonymise your IP address and do not track you across other sites. We do not use third-party tracking cookies for advertising or social media. Our newsletter and affiliate links may include tracking pixels that are disclosed in our advertising and affiliate disclosure.
